Hotel in Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean

A vacation in Cancun, Cozumel, and the Mexican Caribbean has something different to offer every type of traveler; whether the goal is to visit the Mayan ruins, party from dusk until dawn, or simply relax on the beach being warmed by the sun.

Luckily, for every type of traveler, there is an accommodation that rises up to greet them.  The Mexican Caribbean includes the regions of Cancun, Cozumel, Playa de Carmen, and a number of ther cities that run along the coast, down to Chetumal and Xkalak along the Belizean border. Vacationers heading to the Mexican Caribbean have the option of choosing between a number of housing options, from resorts that cater to your every need, to rental properties that allow you a bit of freedom, and even camp grounds where you can pitch a tent and sleep under the stars.

Resorts

Resorts, especially of the All-Inclusive variety, line the streets of the Hotel Zone in Cancun, and are popular in Cozumel and Playa de Carmen as well.  The sprawling properties often feature several buildings worth of rooms, restaurants, bars, and a variety of entertainment options such as pools, game rooms, and fitness centers.  Concierge services at resorts are well-versed in local happenings, and are able to direct you to the top attractions in the area, often even going the extra mile to set you up with a tour guide or car service.  Many resorts also offer extra perks such as resort dive courses in the pool or spa services.  These extra amenities may cost you a bit more, but having them available to you at one location is a convenience that appeals to many vacationers.

Small Hotels

Not everyone needs all the bells and whistles that come with a resort stay.  For many a simple hotel that offers the basic amenities such as a clean room, comfortable bed, hot shower, and maybe a small refrigerator is all they need to make their stay in the Mexican Caribbean a comfortable one.  These hotels are typically less expensive than resorts, though fewer amenities will be included in the room fee.  Small hotels may have a pool on property and perhaps even a bar and restaurant.

Condos and Villas

When traveling with a large group, or staying for an extended period of time, it may behoove you to rent out a condo or villa, rather than book a hotel room.  Condos and villas offer a more homey feel, with separate living spaces, cooking and eating spaces, bedrooms, and bathrooms.  These locales come fully furnished, but otherwise, each property can vary quite a lot from the next.  Some condo and villa guests still receive full hotel-treatment, with maid services and a concierge desk in the main office, while others leave guests to their own devices, allowing them to treat the rental property as if it were truly a home away from home.
