Casa Santiago is situated in the very historic center of the city but you would not know it once inside their property's walls. It is quiet and green. That is the nature of Spanish colonial architecture which owes much to Roman and Moorish influences.
Luxurious beds and comfortable furnishings

There are four universities here, an opera house, a daily diet of free or low priced cultural events, four luxury shopping centers, an upscale Costco and a charming zoo down the street a few blocks dating from 1900. But it is the ordinary happy daily life of the old squares, the music, the churchbells and the Mayan people that make Merida so charming. Casa Santiago has a surprisingly large number of cheerful professors and the like who stay with us. They have found that they enjoy a more personalized travel itinerary than may be available ordinarily with local tour operators. By first hand experience and experimentation, their good friend Roberto Lara and they have created a specialized set of day trips that may appeal to you. They represent good value. Roberto Lara is, by common consensus, one of nature’s true gentlemen, as kind and thoughtful as he is competent and reliable. He speaks excellent Spanish, Mayan and English. He was born in the small Mayan town of Muna near Uxmal and has lived in Merida for the past 50 years or so. He drove taxis in Miami and did tailor work in Montreal. He worked for a number of years as the administrative assistant to the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Merida and hence, knows everyone and everything. A few years ago, he and his wife Margarita decided to go into the taxi and tour business. He has a new, air-conditioned seven-passenger taxi van in perfect condition, properly licensed and insured.

Anyone travelling to this part of Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean should consider factors besides the hotel's amenities and activities; for instance, it can be just as important to take into account the regional dining options, and whether the area offers the right styles and cusines.
