Hours of Operation

Buisiness hours in Cancun are more likely to reflect the typical comings and goings of tourists, whereas hours in the Riviera Maya will vary based on season, amount of business, and number of tourists.

The hours of operation for most businesses are 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily but can vary greatly depending on the tempo of the area you're visiting. Often businesses close from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for siesta, the traditional Mexican afternoon nap. During the warmer months, it is usually too hot to go out at this time anyway, and it's a good way to rest up for a night on the town. Expect most businesses to be closed on Sunday in observance of the Sabbath.  As a whole, Mexicans end to be very religious people.

Mexican banks are generally open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays, and some (but certainly not all) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Money exchangers will frequently post different hours to cater to tourists, but these hours reflect location, business, and whether the area is in season. Consult your hotel concierge for up to date hours of operation in the Mexican Caribbean.

Though it is hard to say exactly when each business in the Mexican Caribbean will be open, knowing the general business hours will help you to avoid having signs that read "Cerrado."
