Business hours in the Mexican Caribbean start late and run late

Time Flies When Having Fun

Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean Hours of Operation

Hours of operation for most businesses are 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily but can vary greatly depending on the tempo of the area you're visiting. Hours in Cancun are more likely to reflect its tourist nature, whereas hours in the Riviera Maya will vary based on season, amount of business, and number of tourists.

Many businesses may close from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for siesta, the traditional Mexican afternoon nap. During the warmer months, it is usually too hot to go out at this time anyway, and it's a good way to rest up for a night on the town. Expect most businesses to be closed on Sunday in observance of the Sabbath. Mexicans are very religious people.

Mexican banks are generally open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays, and some (but certainly not all) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Money exchangers will frequently post different hours to cater to tourists, but these hours reflect location, business, and whether the area is in season. Consult your hotel concierge for up to date hours of operation in the Mexican Caribbean.
